If you have any questions, you can contact Mrs Bowden at email@example.com
In Year 4 our teacher is called Mrs Bowden and the teaching assistant is Mrs Akester. Mrs Baker also supports in Year 4 and teaches the class on a Friday.
We learn about some exciting topics in Year 4 which cover a range of curriculum areas and we also enjoy linking some of our learning to interesting texts such as ‘ Charlotte’s Web’, ‘The Firework Maker’s Daughter’ and ‘The Stone Age Boy’.
After register, we begin every day with either some handwriting, reading or spelling practise to get us ready for the day ahead.
We then do English until morning break at 10.15 am. At break, children can choose to join the fruit scheme (which gives them a piece of fruit each morning) or they can bring their own fruit from home as we encourage healthy eating in our school.
After break we do our whole class reading where we look at a different extract of text to discuss and answer questions on. We also listen to Mrs Bowden read every day before Home time and we take turns at sitting in our cosy new reading corner!
After reading, every day we do Maths. Each week alongside maths lessons children practise their times tables up to 12 x 12. This is really important in Year 4, especially as children have a national test on their tables at the end of the year. Each week we are given different tables to focus on and practise at home and in school. We also have our own usernames and passwords for TT Rockstars which really helps us to improve our speed at recalling times table facts. The child who gets the most points each week gets a certificate to take home.
In Key Stage 2, lunch begins at 12.00 pm and ends at 1.00pm. After lunch we do learning relating to other curriculum areas which are History, Geography, French, Science, Computing, PSHE, R.E., Art and Design, Music and PE.
Our PE is on Mondays this year. Children at the moment come to school dressed in their PE kit on this day.
All children have been given a new combined Spelling Investigation and Reading record book this year. Please listen to your child read as often as possible and record it in this book. They can read their reading book, a comic, magazine or their own book of choice as long as it involves reading! We encourage children to read as often as possible but at least 3 times each week. Reading books are changed each Monday and when your child has read 70 times they will receive a free book of their choice from school! Also children will bring home either some Maths or English home learning each week which, wherever possible, links to areas taught during the week in Maths or English. This is given out each Friday to be returned by the following Wednesday.
In Year 4 we are very lucky as we are able to learn to play a musical instrument. Durham Music Service, will be teaching the class to play either a baritone, clarinet or trumpet. They also teach fun songs and musical activities in their lesson each Thursday.
