Our teacher is called Mrs Howe and our teaching assistant is Mrs Conlon.
Every morning we start the day with “Wake Up Shake Up,” aerobic exercises. We use GoNoodle, which is great fun and an invigorating way to start the day!
We usually have an assembly on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday which is at 9.15am. On a Friday we sometimes have a hymn practice which is at the end of the day. Playtime is at 10.30am when we can have a healthy snack and choose from lots of activities on the yard. Some children have milk too.
In the mornings we usually do Maths and English. Much of our reading and writing is linked to an exciting book and we use film and pictures to help us too. Our maths learning will include a range of fun and exciting learning activities and will involve applying our maths knowledge in a range of practical ways. We also do problem solving activities in most lessons. Each week we also do an arithmetic test.
Lunch is at 12.00pm where the children can enjoy a nutritious, healthy meal or packed lunch in a friendly and sociable environment.
In the afternoons we cover subjects such as Science, History, Geography and Art which are all linked to our topic. We also do PSHE, RE and Music. We also use time in the afternoons to practise our handwriting and spelling pattern for the week by investigating it. We also sometimes visit our school library and choose a new and exciting library book to take home. We love the library! Let’s get absorbed in a book!
Each child also has a reading record and reading book which they should bring to school every day. Please sign the reading record each time your child reads and when they have read 70 times they will be able to choose a book of their very own!
P.E. is a very important part of our curriculum and keeps us fit and healthy. We do PE on Tuesday and Wednesday although this can sometimes change so it is important to have a PE kit in school for the whole week. Our kit consists of T-shirt, shorts and gym shoes or trainers, and sometimes trousers if we are going outside in the winter.
Home learning helps us to practise skills we are learning in our lessons in school. Home learning at Key Stage 1 is some spellings, reading, handwriting and times tables/counting practise. We get our home learning in our books on a Tuesday and we bring our book into school every day to allow us to practise our spelling investigation patterns. Books MUST be returned on Monday to allow new home learning to be added for the following day. If we complete our home learning fully each week, we earn 10 minutes of reward time then at the end of each half term we have a treat afternoon.
Miss Welsh is the Roger Hargreaves family group leader. We have family groups every other Friday where we learn about rights and how to respect them.
