Welcome to Year 1 (Key Stage 1)
Our teacher is Miss. Hodges and our teaching assistant is Mrs Akester.
Every morning we start the day with “Wake Up Shake Up,” aerobic exercises. We have a range of exciting exercise programs we can choose from such as GoNoodle, which is great fun and an invigorating way to start the day!
We have a daily assembly with all of Key Stage 1 at 9.10am. In the mornings we have Maths and English with a play time in between at 10.30am. During play time we can have a healthy snack and choose from lots of activities on the yard. Our Maths and English lessons are very practical and we use a range of fun and hands on methods to learn new concepts and to apply them in different ways. Our reading and writing is linked to an exciting book, text or video which changes regularly. We are always very excited to find out what they will be! Our classroom is set up to have a variety of areas which we access during the day in between our learning time. These areas contain resources which help us to develop our skills in all areas of the curriculum. Lunch is at 12.00pm where we can enjoy a nutritious, healthy meal or packed lunch in a friendly and sociable environment.
In the afternoons we cover subjects such as Science, History, Geography, Art, PSHE, Computing, RE and Music. We love to spend time outdoors and sometimes do these lessons or parts of these lessons outside if it is possible! We also have shorter English based sessions such as handwriting and whole class reading, which take place throughout the week and in the afternoons.
P.E. is a very important part of our curriculum and keeps us fit and healthy. We have P.E. on Wednesday and Thursday but bring our P.E. kits every day just in case. Our P.E. Kit consists of T-shirt, shorts and gym shoes or trainers. Warmer clothes such as jogging bottoms and sweatshirts/jumpers are also a good ideas for the warmer months of the year as we may have P.E outdoors.
Home learning helps us to practise skills we are learning in our lessons. We bring these home on a Tuesday and we bring our book into school every day to allow us to practise our spelling investigation patterns. Books MUST be returned each Monday to allow new home learning to be added for the following Tuesday.
